MAP!

Here's the SAS map of where we'll be going! :)

Courses

Here are the courses that I'm really interested in:

Anthropology: Sex and Gender in Cross-Cultural Perspective
Anthropology: Ethnography
Anthropology: Food and Culture
Art History: Arts of the Buddhist World - India to Japan
History: The West and the World - Global Interactions
Philosophy: Global Ethics

So I know that out of those I only have to pick three, but I've just fallen in love with them all. Hopefully my school will accept some of the anthropology ones. Ahhhh can't wait! :)

Field Trips

So I've finally got my stuff together and have started to think of the different excursions that I find to be really interesting while I'm at SAS (these aren't final, but things that I would like to do). Since there isn't anything up yet for Dominica and Brazil, I'll just leave those out for now. Plus the thing that I really want to do in Dominica is just go to the beaches there; a lot of people have been talking about the bumpiing tour, but all I want to do is go to Titou Gorge where some of Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed (so cool!). As far as the amazon, I think it would be really awesome to travel through the rainforest, but I'm all about exploring around there and experiencing the different cultures.
Ghana:
Drumming/Dance Workshop
Torgorme Village
Benin/Ganvie (2 days)
South Africa:
Hike Table Top Mountain
Safari (3 days)
Cape Point
Penguin Beach
Cape Malay
Mauritius:
just go to the beach and explore
mauritian woman's world
Chennai:
Taj Mahal (4 days)
yoga
Singapore:
Ethnic Flavor
Vietnam:
Tunnels/Temple
Hong Kong:
Tai Chi/Tea/Dim Sum
Great Wall (4 days)
Kobe:
Kyoto
Hiroshima
Yokohama:
Cultural Tokyo
Hilo:
Skydiving (?)
Volcanoes/Legends

I'm getting so excited to go on all of these adventures! Some of the girls have some wonderful ideas for saving money and time which is always good when we don't have a lot of it...I wish we could be in each port for two weeks instead of one :( but at least I'll know where I want to go back to! Getting this all in order reminds me of how completely excited I am about all of this!! :)

Starting Out

Hello All!
Here's where I'll be writing for the next couple of months about Semester At Sea, this great experience where I'll be able to visit different countries in the world and be able to experience all sorts of cultures! I'm an Anthropology Major and History Minor so this is the perfect experience for me :) and if you can't tell by the exclamations already, I'm extremely excited :)

So I've read some of the other blogs out there and to be honest I'm freaking out because it seems as if there's so much to do in preparation for this trip of a lifetime. We have so much paperwork to figure out and to send in like all the travel visas etc.

Also, a lot of you are planning the trips outside of SAS, which is smart but I'm also thinking that I want to stay with the ship, I'm not very spontaneous in that way haha. For example, the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall are both things I really want to do, however, I'm not so sure that going away from the ship is so smart. What if we're running behind or something and miss the ship? I know it's cheaper to do it apart from the ship, but I'm kind of a wuss and like to be on a tour. So, hopefully I'll be able to get accepted for their excursions :)

I'm also really excited to meet all of these awesome looking people! Everyone sounds so friendly and into the experience that I cannot wait to get this show on the road! I found out that I'm on Deck 2 Outside, so that should be exciting! At least I have a porthole to look outside of.

As far as packing goes I'm in a quandary because I have so many clothes I'd like to bring, but I think they let you only bring 2 suitcases which could be a slight issue for me haha. Also, does anyone know if we're supposed to bring a laptop or if we just use the computers on the ship?

Ahhhh! SO MUCH TO DO SO LITTLE TIME!! :)
